2006 WORLD HUNT REPORT

The 2006 ACHA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP HUNT in Atkins Arkansas was a complete success! The number of dogs entered, increased over the previous years entries for the first time in over 10 years and the caliber of show dogs that competed in the event may have been the best ( 2 World Champions) we've ever had at a ACHA bench show. Also, the young ones really came out and participated in the youth events. The youth hunt and show was the largest we've ever had. All 30 kids went home with plaques and an assortment of prizes from lights, squallers, collars, compasses and leashes and hopefully some fond memories. I know I'll remember for a long time the sounds of a clubhouse with dogs tied up everywhere and a dozen young ones running around and blowing their new squallers! Alesa Carlton, our ACHA National Youth Coordinator did an outstanding job.

It has been a long time since the ACHA WORLD HUNT has created such a buzz on the fairgrounds and in a community as this years event. And the great people of Arkansas deserve all the credit, they came out and supported this event. Despite the short turn around from last years WORLD HUNT to this years event, the Hunt Director Mickey Turney did an outstanding job! The Tri-County CHA of Hector Arkansas are an amazing club. They donated their share of the 50/50 each night to buy items from the vendors to give to the youths on Saturday. We want to thank Michael Carr, the President of that fine club and all of it's members. Their kitchen out worked everyone! The Sunday supper was free to the crowd but that wasn't the best part, the meal itself was the best part. I overheard 3 individuals asking about Vonnie Hurley, her banana pudding and if she was married. The ACHA Board of Directors want to thank each and every participant and spectator for their support and we really hope you invite us back!!!!!!

Your support has charged up the Board of Directors of ACHA and we thank you! While we are on the subject of ACHA Board of Directors I want to pay special tribute to Bob & Opal Johnston. Bob is the President & Chairman of ACHA and his wife Opal is the secretary of ACHA. They made the long trip to Arkansas despite health issues that would have kept many away. With that kind of dedication it is easy to see why they are members of the ACHA Hall of Fame. ACHA is lucky to have such people. Thank you Bob and Opal!!!!!!! We also want to welcome Larry Toller of Berry Ky. to the position of apprentice Director of ACHA. Larry has what it takes to make a fine Director and we are grateful to have him. The Toller's are fine people.

The last item I want to address before I get to the hunt results is the ACHA Hall of Fame. A modest induction ceremony took place at the General Membership meeting in Arkansas and the following individuals were presented their Hall of Fame certificates Bob & Opal Johnston, Arlie Weddington, Mike Raef, T.E. Neely, Buddy Gilbert and Cole McCallister. Congratulations! Members who were inducted and could not attend will receive their certificate in the mail.

This was the smoothest World Hunt I have ever attended. The hunters were great sports and only 3 questions were brought back to the Master of Hounds in 6 nights of hunting. All 3 of those decisions were ruled on, accepted and forgotten. A true reflection of the sportsmanship in Arkansas. Finally I'd like to thank our GREAT sponsors: American Cooner Magazine (Hall of Fame Inductee), Cajun Light, Competition Light, Coon-Eyes Light, Owens Dog Box / B & B Dog Supplies, Wildlife Materials, Diamond Dog Food, Black Gold Dog Food and Nitro / Enhance Dog Food. The hunting conditions in Arkansas and our hunt format are a true test for a dog and handler. Maybe the toughest test out there.( water, no leaves, plus points to advance and hunting alone) For just those reasons I believe OUR ACHA WORLD CHAMPION and TOP 20 deserve alot of respect in the Coon Hound World! I know we're certainly are proud of them!
